FAQ
Common Questions About SafeMark
What SafeMark is, how it works, and what happens with your data.
What is SafeMark?
SafeMark is a voluntary safety improvement assessment that gives your business a safety rating — the SafeMark Rating — based on a guided physical walkthrough of your facility. The rating is grounded in federal OSHA standards, NFPA codes, and building code requirements, specific to your building.
Is SafeMark free?
Yes. The SafeMark Rating is free, always. You walk your building, answer questions, and receive your score at no cost. SafeMark Ready — the paid improvement package with line-item gap detail and OSHA-required documents — is available when you're ready to close the gaps.
How long does the walkthrough take?
About 15 minutes. You walk through your facility with the app on your phone, answering one question at a time in plain English. No special training or equipment required.
What is SafeMark NOT?
SafeMark is not a compliance audit, not an OSHA inspection, not a guarantee of regulatory compliance, and not a punitive scoring system. It is a voluntary safety improvement assessment — a tool to help you understand where your building stands and what you can do to improve.
Can my SafeMark data be used against me?
SafeMark is a voluntary safety improvement assessment, not an employer recordkeeping system under 29 CFR Part 1904. Your data is voluntary compliance information stored in First Pro's independently-owned database. First Pro will not voluntarily share your data with OSHA or any government entity. Any government data request requires legally sufficient compulsory process.
How does SafeMark help with insurance?
Your SafeMark Rating is a documented, facility-specific safety credential you can share with your insurance agent. Insurance carriers already reward proactive safety investment — SafeMark gives you the documentation to prove it. Published research shows formal safety programs reduce workers' comp claim frequency by 66% and costs by up to 81%.
What is a SafeMark Partnership?
When you activate a SafeMark Partnership, you connect your building with your local fire department. They receive pre-incident planning data that helps them prepare to respond to your building. Your SafeMark Rating improves. A building your local fire department knows is a safer building.
What score do I need for SafeMark Certified?
SafeMark Certified threshold is being finalized. When your SafeMark Rating meets the threshold, you earn SafeMark Certified status — a credential you can display and share with insurers, employees, and customers.
What standards is the SafeMark Rating based on?
The SafeMark Rating is grounded in federal OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910), NFPA codes (including NFPA 1, 10, 13, 25, 72, 96, 101), IFC/IBC building code requirements, and ADA safety provisions. Scoring is weighted across seven categories by real-world risk.
How do I improve my SafeMark Rating?
Close the gaps identified in your assessment. Purchase SafeMark Ready for line-item detail and improvement documentation. Activate a SafeMark Partnership with your fire department. Every improvement moves your score. SafeMark tracks your trajectory over time.
